Iraqi-Saudi trade relations for the period (2004-2021) and their future prospects in light of alternative scenes
Abstract
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been able to significantly develop its oil exports and other products in recent years, based on the development of its production sectors. It has been able to seize an important part of the Iraqi market, while Iraq has not been able to keep up with this trend in the Kingdom and in other countries, especially neighboring countries. Which made its exports to the Kingdom stop at some goods and secondary products, and Iraqi-Saudi trade relations took on a traditional character, Saudi Arabia's export capabilities have varied in its movement to export goods to Iraq during recent years, during which Saudi exports to Iraq greatly outnumbered Iraqi exports to it, which made the Iraqi-Saudi trade balance suffer from a state of deficit during the period (2004-2021), and in this Framework: The study showed that total Saudi exports far exceed Iraqi exports to it, as the Iraqi trade balance recorded a net deficit for the years 2006, 2010 and 2014-2018. Saudi Arabia’s exports to Iraq in 2018 amounted to (832) million dollars, compared to (183) million dollars Iraq’s exports to it. The Iraqi market represents a favorable opportunity to receive Saudi products that mainly meet its consumer needs, especially when the Kingdom is established. By taking actual measures to confront the export competition of other neighboring countries and other countries.
The scenes of the commercial relationship with Saudi Arabia will remain at the level of its superiority in part of the Iraqi market unless fundamental reforms are achieved in Iraq starting from laying the foundations of infrastructure on correct and advanced foundations and restoring life to the main economic sectors - industry, agriculture, tourism and services - because when this is achieved, a true commercial partnership will be achieved. With the Kingdom and other countries.
