The impact of drug abuse on the economic situation in Anbar Governorate
Abstract
Drugs are a phenomenon that has spread widely on a global level and has become a source of concern for all countries of the world, including Iraq, especially after 2003. This phenomenon has negative effects on drug users of all kinds and on the country's economy. The research aims to review the effects of drug use and illegal trafficking on the Iraqi economy in general and on the economy of Anbar Governorate in particular. The research reached a number of conclusions, perhaps the most important of which is that the research hypothesis was proven that drug use by young people has a negative impact on the user and on the country’s economy in general and the economy of Anbar Governorate in particular, and that these drugs enter from countries neighboring Iraq. The study came out with several recommendations, the most important of which was the need to impose strict measures on the borders to prevent the entry of drugs, as well as issuing strict penalties on drug users in order to eliminate this phenomenon.
